Kid-Friendly Activities

Looking for some awesome things to do with the kids during your Ocean Isle Beach vacation? We thought you might be. Today we have ten exciting activities the kids are sure to love. From indoor to outdoor and everything in between there is something for every age group in this post.

Beach Games For The Little Ones

Beach Tic-Tac-Toe

Beach Tic-Tac-Toe Game

Everyone loves a game of Tic-Tac-Toe, and the best part about playing at the beach is Mother Nature provides everything you need. Just draw the squares in the sand, grab a piece of driftwood or shells, and whammo you’re ready to play.

Beach Bowling

Beach Bowling

Beach bowling is simple and fun to play. All you need is a ball (almost any size will work) and a small bucket to make sand pins. I like to use a water bottle with the top cut off to make pins ( 2-Liter bottles are best). Make the pins, stand back…and roll! (IMG Source: Pinterest)

Beach Scavenger Hunt

Beach Scavenger Hunt

Gather up the kids and get ready for a beach scavenger hunt. Make a list of items on index cards ahead of time. Simply give the kids a card and set them loose. Remember to keep an eye on the little ones around the water.

Hang Ten! Surfing OIB.

Want to feel the power of the Atlantic waves surging under your board as you hang ten on Ocean Isle Beach. As you can see in the video, we have some great waves and a vibrant local surfing community. Is this your first time? No problem dude! The friendly staff at the Carolina School of Surf have everything you need to get out on the water and surfing like a pro…ok, maybe not like a pro, but we guarantee you’ll have a blast. Things To Do For Every Age

Fly A Kite

Can you have a day on the beach without a kite? Sure, but why would you! Don’t worry about spending a lot of money. Simple kite kits come with everything you need and can be purchased at one of the many shops here on Ocean Isle Beach. With steady winds, the beach is the perfect place for this time-honored tradition.

Ocean Isle Beach Fishing Pier

Kids love fishing, and one of the traditions you’ll want to add to your Ocean Isle Beach vacation is a day on the Ocean Isle Beach fishing pier. Located on 1st Street, the pier offers concessions, rod and reel rentals, an arcade, and much more. Don’t forget you can visit without fishing for only a dollar! But let’s face it, it’s all about the fishing! Have fun and don’t forget to post a picture with your catch.

Reading Challenge

What goes better with a day on the beach than a great book by your favorite author? Keep the kids interested in reading all summer long with a reading challenge. Have the kids pack their favorite books and have a friendly competition to see who can finish theirs first. This is a great activity while recharging on a hot day, or just relaxing on the deck at night.

Rainy Day Activities

It happens, a rainy day on the beach. Sure it’s rare, but have no fear we still have plenty of things to do with the kids. So turn off that t.v. and get ready to head out for a day of activity. No sitting around the house here!

Bowling

Planet Fun Center in Shallotte, is the perfect place to spend a rainy day or just a cool place to bring the family together for all sorts of fun. Perhaps the best thing they offer is Cosmic Bowling on Friday and Saturday nights featuring a light show. However, there are lots of specials during the week like Monday Madness with food, drink and bowling specials. For more information check out their website.

Visit Ingram Planetarium

We’re lucky here on Ocean Isle Beach to be so close toIngram Planetarium. The planetarium is a busy place hosting dozens of events throughout the year. A fan favorite is the laser light shows. Only a short drive from any of our Ocean Isle Beach vacation rentals, it is worth checking out their calendar of events. You might just find out you love a rainy day.
